The Art of the Intuitive Creative

There was a large canvas under my work bench I had neglected for some time. No matter what I did during the day or where I sat in my studio, my attention was always drawn to it. One night a bolt of inspiration took over. In my mind's eye I saw an image with a specific color and texture. I grabbed the canvas and started painting. I was "in the zone" and tuned out the world around me. Two weeks later the same thing happened again!

I painted ALMOST AN ANGEL (below) only with my hands on a canvas that had been a catch-all for the paint drippings from the acrylic pours. Did this "intuitive painting" vibe happen to other artists?

I asked them.

INSTAGRAM is a haven for artists showcasing their work. I've met the most wonderful creators who inspire me every day with their beautiful art pieces. I interviewed Nicole Linde and Edith Luthi about creating art intuitively. Where does their inspiration come from? What I discovered was a truth that seems to be permeating the human collective.

NICOLE LINDE

Nicole, when did you start painting?

Nicole: I started painting when I was very young. I used to draw, write, paint and play with imaginary friends. In high school I went through a rough patch. Getting involved with my art helped me through it. My art teacher was so amazing and she encouraged me to apply for the art college credit program. They allowed a set number of high school seniors to take one class a week at the college. I ended up going to that art school and graduated.

I always sense a metaphysical presence in your paintings.

Nicole: I was always drawn to the surreal-intuitive-dream state, the expressionistic realms. In art college I had several out of body experiences in class and that’s where I became more aware of my psychic abilities. I tried to channel this energy into my art. But I was not able to control my energies very well. I would sit at a cemetery for hours or by a tree to try to ground myself.

I've had very similar experiences! In this blissful, astral state I saw the most spectacular colors and textures which I've duplicated on my art pieces. Which one of your paintings was a more powerful experience to create?

Nicole: SPIRIT CIRCLE depicts all the energy I feel when connecting to a loved one (that has passed on) in a spirit circle. The woman that appeared in the painting looks a lot like my great aunt.

It's beautiful!

Nicole: Thank you. I also love your painting, Lucy! The colors and images you are tapping into are from that same energy 💖

I'm happy you like them! And yes, it does feel like that same energy you experienced. What is the other painting you mentioned?

Nicole: SITTING IN YOUR POWER is about the experience I have while I meditate with open chakras before a reading.

What a powerful painting!

Nicole: Art has always been a way for me to connect and direct some of these energies that I didn’t understand. It’s a form of meditation for me and has been the gateway for me to connect deeper to my spirit guides, high realms, and spirit.

EDITH LUETHI

I first found Edith's abstract paintings on Pixabay. To my delight I discovered she's on Instagram. It's always wonderful to see when she posts new projects.

What is your creative process?

Edith: I start my paintings without imagination but if necessary I think about which colours I would like to use. I need a lot of time to get into the painting process until I'm completely into painting. I don't think about it.

So you're in the "zone" as they say?

Edith: I paint for hours!

I know that feeling all too well.

Edith: I don't like disturbances because I'm deeply immersed. My inner critic doesn't affect me. My husband has learned over the years not to interrupt me when I paint and even after that I need hours to be back in the here and now.

Let's talk about your micro photography, a micro universe of colorful wonders! So stunning!

Edith: I photograph the same way I paint. My favorite place to take photos is a park or my garden. I take my time until I see the beauty or the special in the small and inconspicuous. I photograph mostly with my micro objektif. I often lie down on the ground and crawl into the bushes very close to the plants. What wonderful worlds show themselves there! Often I am approached because I attract attention with my behavior. People are amused but always very friendly and interested!

Your photos give such a unique perspective into what you see in a micro scale. Have any interesting images or "energies" come out in your photos?

Edith: It takes time and patience to drift, to open the senses, to be surprised. I pay attention to things we overlook in everyday life. I like the abstract and have found it in cityscapes, shadows, structures, reflections in everything! I find street photography exciting. Unfortunately, I still lack the courage to photograph people.

PLEASE publish a book with these photos! I'm trying to convince you.

Edith: I will soon be 62 years old and my time of crawling around for photo purposes is foreseeable 🤪😜 Originally I wanted to photograph abstract table tops with the macro, not just flowers or nature scenes but then I discovered the spaces in-between, behind them, the surreal-dreamy. I have to get very close and into nature. I also discovered that sunlight shining into the lens, dirt or water drops on the lens, gave me exciting effects.
